Philippines adds 956 MW of new power generation capacity
The majority of the additional capacity came from 12 renewable energy plants.
The Philippines has added 956 megawatts (MW) of new power generation capacity across its Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao grids.
According to the Department of Energy, the added generation comes from 12 power plants using renewable energy technologies, one oil-based power plant, and one natural gas-fired power plant, most of which started commissioning in the second half of this year.
This additional capacity is complemented by 160 MW of new energy storage systems capacity located in Luzon and Visayas.
The department said these newly commissioned facilities are amongst the early gains in the ongoing pipeline of projects aligned with the government’s 200 power plant directive.
