3 out of 11 approved projects are "traditional pwoer plants".
The Philippines energy arm, the Department of Energy (DOE) has given the green light to 11 power projects for grid impact studies (GIS) in October. The projects are capable of generating a total of 1,877.9MW of power.
The GIS is required to test if the electricity that will be generated by the projects can be absorbed by the grid.
3 of the cleared projects are traditional power plants, including the 600-MW coal-fired thermal power plant of SMC Global Power Holdings, Inc, the country's biggest power producer.
The other 8 are renewable projects. 5 of those are hydropower plants including the 300-MW Bolusao pumped storage of San Lorenzo Ruiz Samar--the biggest hydropower project in the roster.
2 of the RE projects are solar and the last is a bagasse-fired cogeneration plant project.
A total of 78 projects have been given clearance to conduct GIS, 55 projects short of last year's 133.
