SEDC Energy and Gentari to Establish Sarawak H2 Hub
The hub will adopt a “plug and play” concept.
SEDC Energy Sdn Bhd and Gentari Sdn Bhd will form a joint venture to establish the Sarawak H2 Hub, a global-scale hydrogen production hub in Bintulu in Malaysia, supporting the state;s goal to be a commercial hydrogen producer by 2027.
In a statement, Gentari said the new company will develop, own, operate, and maintain the Sarawk H2 Hub which is a facility to standardise and optimise all hydrogen production projects in the area.
The hub will utilise a “plug and play” concept where it will use a modular approach to integrate hydrogen production units into the hub.
“Leveraging our collective expertise, this joint venture aims to establish Sarawak as a key player in the green hydrogen sector, creating substantial economic value for the state by driving the entry of new industries and investments, creating new high-value jobs, and spurring technological innovation through the provision of green feedstock for downstream facilities such as chemicals production,” commented Michèle Azalbert, Chief Hydrogen Officer, Gentari.
Robert Hardin, Chief Executive Officer, SEDC Energy, said the concept will enable the company to invite more investors or partners into Sarawak.
Gentari also noted that Project H2ornbill, which is a collaboration with Japanese firms ENEOS and Sumitomo Corp, and Project H2biscus, in partnership with Samsung Engineering, Lotte Chemical and KNOC to develop hydrogen derivative facilities, will form part of the Hub.
