Siemens awarded first wind energy project in Philippines

Wind farm has a capacity of 81 MW.

Siemens’ wind farm is located in the province of Ilocos Norte in northern Luzon. The province is also the site of the Philippines’ only operational wind farm.

Siemens Energy will supply and install 27 direct drive wind turbines and provide services for five years. Each of the wind turbines has a capacity of 3 MW. The wind farm will become operational by 2014.

Siemens Wind Power Asia Pacific CEO Kay Weber said the company is delighted to expand its renewable portfolio with its first wind energy contract in Philippines.

"Our SWT-3.0 direct drive wind turbine will provide our customers high quality and profitability with innovation, which will prove that Siemens is a partner they can trust," said Weber.

The contract was placed by Northern Luzon UPC Asia Corporation, AC Energy Holdings and Philippine Investment Alliance for Infrastructure consisting of the Government Service Insurance System, APG and Macquarie Infrastructure Holdings (Philippines).
