Taiwan's first offshore wind power unit to operate early 2017

It will supply power to 8,000 households.

Taiwan, who recently announced plans to be a nuclear-free country by 2025, will start operating its first offshore wind power unit early next year, according to Premier Lin Chuan.

The unit is erected on an island in Miaoli County and could power 8,000 households. Its two turbines are located near Longfeng port in Zhunan. 30 other similar offshore projects in Miaoli County are currently being planned.
