Thyssenkrupp Nucera opens new office in Australia

The electrolysis specialist said the demand for green hydrogen is expected to grow.

Electrolysis specialist Thyssenkrupp Nucera has opened a new office in Perth, Australia, tapping into the emerging green hydrogen industry in the country.

In a statement, the company said the facility is planned to have full sales and project execution capabilities to support its growth and projects there.

The industrial area the company moved into “offers ideal infrastructure for green hydrogen and green chemicals exports to global and key Asian markets as well as local workforce and capabilities for project support,” it said, adding that Thyssenkrupp Nucera positions itself at the centre of a “strategic sweet spot to supply gigawatt-scale technology” in Australia.

“Western Australia has many attributes that provide a strong competitive advantage in the growing global renewable hydrogen market with their combination of world-class renewable energy resources, vast landmass, established energy infrastructure and a history of exporting energy to international markets,” said Johann Rinnhofer, the managing director of Thyssenkrupp Nucera Australia.

The company noted that the demand for green hydrogen is seen to grow significantly in the region.

It added that by 2030 Australia can possibly export up to 500,000 tonnes of hydrogen to meet the around 2.5 million tonnes of predicted demand by Japan and South Korea alone, which accounts for five gigawatts of electrolysis capacity for export only
