Vena Energy, Kowepo to develop 2 wind projects in South Korea

The projects will each have a total of 53MW and 40MW capacity.

Vena Energy and Korean Western Power Co., Ltd (KOWEPO) have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to develop two wind projects in South Korea.

The MoU provided for the establishment of a 53-megawatt (MW) wind project in Gangwon Province and a 40MW wind project in Gyeongsangbuk Province.

The projects are expected to produce enough renewable power to provide for 36,075 Korean households yearly. The combined capacity, according to Vena Energy is equivalent to reducing some 100,720 tonnes of greenhouse gas emissions.

“We believe that our partnership will help accelerate South Korea’s transition towards renewable energy by 2050,” said Kwangjin Cheong, Head of Vena Energy Korea.

“We look forward to engaging with our local communities throughout the entire process and contributing to the local economy through job creation and social activities.”

Vena Energy has so gas conducted wind measurement studies in the Gangwon Province to ensure the feasibility of the project. It has also secured permits for the development.

Moreover, the company has engaged with the local community through social activities, such as the sponsorship of a local “Arirang Market,” and setting up field trips to visit the project site amongst others.
