India surpasses July generation target by 3%

India surpassed its energy generation target for July by 3,065 million units, generating 74,104 million MU during the month. The country also registered an impressive double digit growth rate of 12.49% over the electricity generated from the same period last year.

According to the Central Electricity Authority, the cumulative electricity generation during the period from April-July 2011 stands at 2,91,139 MU, in comparison to 2,66,392 MU generated during the corresponding period last year.

Thermal power generation exhibited a growth rate of 8.08%, against the corresponding figure of July'10, although
it was 0.44% less than the target due to evacuation problems.

On the other hand, nuclear generation achieved a remarkable growth rate of 62.70%, mainly due to improved availability of nuclear fuel to various nuclear plants and increased installed capacity.

Generation from hydro based plants recorded a growth rate of 28.5%.

The cumulative electricity generation from the thermal, hydro and nuclear power sectors saw a growth of 6.24%, 19.60% and 53.27%, respectively, during the first four months.
