Transmission fault causes Macau to use generators

CEM temporarily lowered its power importation from Guangdong in half due to a safety fault the transmission towers in Zhuhai.

The reduced importation was requested by Guangdong Power Grid Corporation in order for its Zhuhai Power Supply Bureau to carry out temporary emergency measures.

The generators of Macao Power Station were put in operation in full gear to cope with the situation to ensure the power supply reliability. With the support of Zhuhai Power Supply Bureau, the emergency measures were implemented with relatively low power consumption level. Thus, the incident did not create any impact to the Macao power supply. GPG Zhuhai Power Supply Bureau also expressed its gratitude to Companhia de Electricidade de Macau’s dedicated collaboration.

According to CEM Communications and Public Affairs Senior Manager Iun Iok Meng, this incident well demonstrated the importance of the devoted joint effort between Zhuhai and Macao to ensure a reliable power supply to Macao.
Currently Macao mainly depends on the power generation by Macao and Coloane Power Stations and Macao Incineration Plant, and power importation from GPG. The power imported last year accounted for 61 percent of the total Macao power supply, while the power imported from January to June this year made up 77 percent of the total.
