Chugoku Electric Power resumed operation at the trouble-hit Misumi thermal plant in Shimane Prefecture.
This will allowed C hugoku Electric Power to provide 720,000 kilowatts of electricity next month to Kansai Electric Power Co., which has been experiencing a stringent power supply situation.
With the restart of the 1 million kilowatt No. 1 unit at the plant, Chugoku Electric can increase its power supply to Kansai Electric, covering Osaka and the surrounding Kinki region in western Japan, thereby upping Kansai Electric's total supply in August to 29.86 million kilowatts.
But even with the increase in supply, Kansai Electric will still see a deficit in power supply versus maximum expected demand, so the utility plans to continue calling for more power-saving efforts by its customers.
Chugoku Electric said it expects to secure 13.35 million kilowatts in supply against an expected maximum demand of 11.65 million kilowatts in August in its service area of Hiroshima, Okayama, Yamaguchi, Shimane and Tottori prefectures and some nearby areas in western Japan, also by resuming operation at another thermal plant.
