Skill gaps slow Asia's energy expansion

Technician shortages are becoming a defining constraint for renewable energy growth.

Speaking on the sidelines of Energy Taiwan & Net-Zero Taiwan 2025—organised by TAITRA and GESA—Ian Yang, Head of Taiwan at Vento, said Asia’s renewable sector is being reshaped by a shortage of qualified workers. “Every customer has a different certification pipeline… looking for professional manpower would be the biggest challenge to fulfill all our customers.”

Yang noted that this gap also creates opportunity for Vento, which has built a strong roster of certified specialists. “We have many skilled technicians… our main product is manpower,” he said, adding that blade specialists can deliver immediate repair and equipment support.

To meet rising demand, Vento is expanding across the region. “We have already expanded our footprint, not only in Taiwan, but also to the Asia Pacific,” Yang said, citing a Japan branch and support operations in Australia and New Zealand.
