ADB earmarks US$3.87M for small wind projectsADB aims to create reliable and affordable emission-free electricity to remote areas through small wind systems. "Small wind is a sustainable solution for rural, remote and dispersed markets, reducing energy import dependence, and entailing no fuel price risk or constraints," said Jiwan Acharya, Asian Development Bank specialist on regional and sustainable development department. The project will be commenced by identifying the 5,000 villages in the Philippines, Nepal and Mongolia where small wind systems will be installed. The ADB is initially earmarking $3.87 million for the project. “It will explore innovative and practical approaches to reduce costs of wind power equipment by transferring appropriate technologies and optimizing manufacturing processes,” he said.
