Orion Group seeks to install 630MW Bangladesh plant

A power-purchase deal with Orion Group may be revisedto allow it to set up a 630MW coal-fired plant at Rampal in Bagerhat.

The Power Division has placed therevision  proposal before the cabinet committee on public purchase.

Earlier in June this year, the Power Division signed the agreement with Orion Group to install two power plants in Chittagong and Rampal having a combined capacity of producing 565MW of electricity.

“We have placed the proposal to allow installing the mega power plant instead of two medium-scale plants in Chittagong and Rampal,” Power Division secretary Md Abul Kalam Azad said.

Orion Group said some $8-10 million would be saved by installing the 630MW power plant instead of setting up two plants having a combined capacity of generating 565MW of electricity.

The company also offered the same price for electricity from the mega power plant for the next 25 years.
