Commissions 21MW wind project in Rajasthan.
Tata Power, India's largest integrated power utility and largest wind power provider, said the Rajasthan facility brings its total thermal and clean energy capacity to 8,521MW, reinforcing its position as the largest integrated power company in India.
Generation through clean sources such as hydro, wind and solar stands at 873MW while thermal power generation capacity totals 7,648MW. Tata Power’s wind generation company is spread across five states.
Tata Power managing director Anil Sardana said it is the company’s endeavor to have 20 to 25% of its total generation capacity from clean energy sources.
“Wind energy is an important part of our renewable energy portfolio and we aim to add 150-200MW annually. Through this project, we have now made a foray into Rajasthan. We are thankful to all the government officials who have facilitated this project and look forward to their continued support.”
Tata Power has three of its renewable energy projects registered under the Clean Development Mechanism programme of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change. These projects include 50.4MW wind power project at Samana; 50.4MW wind project at Khandke, Maharashtra and 25MW solar project at Mithapur, Gujarat.
Apart from its wind energy portfolio, Tata Power has 28MW of solar power generating capacity, one of the largest in India. It proposes to add 150-200MW of wind and 50MW of solar power capacity every year.
