Vietnam’s first wind farm starts producing electricity

The wind farm at Binh Thuan province will initially produce 30 MW of electricity.

It will eventually contain 80 wind turbines, of which 20 became operational last week. The wind farm was built at a cost of US$959,000 and funded by the Vietnam Renewable Energies Joint Stock Company.

Binh Thuan, some 1,150 km south of the capital Hanoi, has a huge potential for wind energy. The government has granted licenses to 13 investors to build 16 additional wind farms with a combined capacity of 1,240 MW.

Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc praised the efforts of the province and Vietnam Renewable Energies. He asked the local government to complete the second phase of the project as soon as possible and build other wind farms around the province.
