Singapore inaugurates first eco-friendly train station

It’s the Woodlands MRT station.

Woodlands MRT station is SMRT Corporation's first station to receive the Building and Construction Authority's Green Mark (Gold) in April this year. SMRT operates Singapore’s bus, rail, taxi and other public-transport services via several wholly owned subsidiaries.

The environmental impact of the Woodlands MRT station’s facilities and operations was assessed in six areas: energy efficiency, water efficiency, environmental protection, indoor environmental quality, other green features and innovation and sustainable operations and management.

The station features energy efficient escalators and a lift that are sensor-operated. Bathroom fittings also help reduce the flow-rate of water for more efficient water management.
