Philippines approves renewable energy tariffs
FIT rates disappoint RE developers.
The Philippines’ Energy Regulatory Commission approved feed-in tariff (FIT) rates for wind, solar, hydroelectric and biomass energy lower than those asked for by RE developers.
The FIT per kilowatt hour for solar power is set at PhP9.68 (US$0.223); wind, PhP8.53 (US$0.197); run-of-river hydroelectric power, PhP5.90 (US$0.136) and biomass PhP6.63 (US$0.153).
The renewable energy board in its May 2011 petition sought a FIT of PhP17.95 (US$0.414) for solar energy; PhP10.37 (US$0.239) for wind; PhP6.15 (US$0.141) for hydroelectric and PhP7.00 (US$0.161) for biomass.
ERC deferred fixing a FIT for ocean thermal energy conversion pending further study.
