Eurus Energy begins rebuilding 10.5 MW wind farm
The facility has been operating for over 20 years.
Eurus Energy Holdings Corporation has announced that improvements at the 10.5 megawatt (MW) Eurus Mameda Wind Farm commenced on 1 March.
In a statement, Eurus Energy said its Eurus Yokohama Wind Farm LLC has started work to replace some of the 20-year-old plant’s turbines.
The wind farm in Yokohama Town, Shimokita District, Aomori Prefecture started commercial operation in October 2003. Three of the six wind turbines temporarily terminated operation in March 2023 for the reconstruction work, whilst the remaining ones are still in commercial operation with ongoing maintenance.
The three terminated wind turbines will be replaced with two Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy S.A. wind turbines, each with an output of 4.3 MW, one of the largest in Japan.
Commercial operation is scheduled to start in February 2027, with the generated power equivalent to the electricity consumed by approximately 5,000 average households. It is expected to reduce carbon emissions by approximately 10,000 tonnes per year.
