Vietnam eyes eliminating 358.7 million tonnes of greenhouse gas emissions

The Minister of Industry and Trade signed Decision No. 2600/QD-BCT.

Vietnam announced it plans to reduce 358.7 million tonnes of greenhouse gas emissions in its energy and industrial sector from 2026 to 2030.

Minister of Industry and Trade Nguyen Hong Dien signed Decision No. 2600/QD-BCT implementing the reduction plan in the two sectors under its management.

Measures for the energy industry include developing renewable energy power plants, combined gas turbines using domestic natural gas and liquefied gas, and supercritical thermal power technology.

As for the industrial sector, the government eyes recovering energy from waste heat, optimising the combustion process, using high-efficiency equipment, installing converters for production lines, and implementing energy management systems.

These measures are in line with the Nationally Determined Contribution updated in 2022 and the National Strategy on Climate Change for 2050.

With international support, the potential greenhouse gas emission reduction is expected to reach 1.5 billion tons.
