Vietnam completes 500kV circuit-3 transmission line
This connects Quang Trach (Quang Binh) and Pho Noi (Hung Yen).
Vietnam Electricity (EVN) has successfully completed the 500 kilovolt (kV) circuit-3 transmission line project in just over six months, significantly faster than the typical three to four-year timeline.
In a statement, EVN said the 519-kilometre-long line, which has an investment capital of around $896.8m, was inaugurated on 29 August. It has a total of four sections, namely Quang Trach - Quynh Luu, Quynh Luu - Thanh Hoa, Thanh Hoa - Nam Dinh Thermal Power Plant 1, and Nam Dinh Thermal Power Plant 1 - Pho Noi.
The 500kV circuit 3 transmission line is a complex project due to its double-circuit design and the diverse terrains it traverses. The construction scale is substantial, involving 1,177 poles, 705,000 cubic metres of concrete, 209,000 tonnes of steel, and 503 spans with a total length of conductors, optical, and lightning cables of 14,000 square metres.
EVN said the project will enhance power transmission capacity from Central to Northern Vietnam. By increasing capacity from 2,500 megawatts (MW) to 5,000 MW, the transmission line will improve system stability, boost power supply to the North, and alleviate pressure on existing infrastructure, it added.
