Vietnam PM urges swift completion of 500kV circuit-3 power transmission

The Prime Minister wants it done before 2 September.

Vietnam Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh told all relevant authorities to speed up the completion of the 500-kilovolt circuit-3 power transmission line project.

In a statement, state-owned Vietnam Electricity (EVN) said the prime minister hopes to conduct the inauguration of the facility before 2 September which is also the 79th anniversary of Vietnam’s National Day.

The transmission project, which spans 519 kilometres from Quang Trach in the central province of Quang Binh to Pho Noi in the northern province of Hung Yen, has a transmission capacity of up to 2,400 megawatts.

Work on the $895m transmission project started in October 2023. This consists of four sub-projects, namely Quang Trach – Quynh Luu (Nghe An province), Quynh Luu – Thanh Hoa (Thanh Hoa province), Thanh Hoa – Nam Dinh 1 thermal power plant (Nam Dinh province), and Nam Dinh 1 thermal power plant – Pho Noi.

So far, several stretches of this project have become operational. However, EVN said much still needs to be done to complete and put the entire project into operation before the target date.
