Indonesia looks to auction three waste-to-energy projects in 2019

One project in Tangerang City has already entered the auction process.

The Indonesian government plans to auction three waste-to-energy projects in 2019 as part of its shift from fossil fuels to alternative sources of energy, The Jakarta Post reports.

The projects are located in the West Java capital of Bandung and in Tangerang and South Tangerang, Banten.

The waste-to-energy projects are based on the presidential regulation no. 35/2018 on the accelerated development of waste-to-energy plants based on environmentally friendly technology.

According to Energy and Mineral Resources Ministry’s renewable energy and energy conservation director General Sutijastoto, the waste-to-energy plant in Tangerang City has already entered the auction process. The plant was designed to produce 10 to 20MW of electricity.

He expects that the project in South Tangerang can be auctioned by end-2019.
