Vietnam adds 2.7-3GW gas-fired projects to national planning

Their first phases are set to be commissioned in 2025-26.

The government of Vietnam has added the Ca Na phase I and Long Song phase I (Ba Ria-Vung) LNG-fired power projects to the National Power Development Planning (PDP).

The Ca Na LNG-fired power project is developed by the Thai energy group Gulf in the Ninh Thuan province. The first 1.5GW phase that has been included in the PDP is expected to be commissioned in 2025-2026. The entire project will have a capacity of 6GW, for a total investment of US$7.8b.

Meanwhile, the first phase of the Long Song project (1.2-1.5GW) is scheduled to enter operations in 2025-2026. The project, developed by the state-owned utility Electricity of Vietnam (EVN), includes a 3.5 Mt/year LNG import terminal and three 1.2GW combined-cycle gas turbine (CCGT) power plants, with a combined capacity of 3.6GW, for a total investment of $4.4b.
