US-based First Solar to build Australian power plants

First Solar will design and build two utility-scale power plants with a total capacity of 159 MW in South Wales for AGL Energy Ltd.

 

Construction is expected to begin on both projects--a 106 MW project in Nyngan and a 53 MW project in Broken Hil --in 2014. Commercial operation is exopected to commence on 2015.

The projects will receive funding from the Australian federal government as well as the state government.
