India, Australia sign letter of intent to scale up RE adoption

The two countries will collaborate also on reducing the cost of renewable energy technologies.

India and Australia signed a Letter of Intent to collaborate on reducing cost of new and renewable energy technologies, as well as scale up deployment in line with global emissions reduction targets.

India’s Ministry of Power in a statement said that under the letter, the parties will prioritise scaling up the manufacture and deployment of ultra-low-cost solar and clean hydrogen.

The letter was signed at the 4th India-Australia Energy Dialogue held Tuesday which was co-chaired by Indian Minister for Power and New & Renewable Energy Raj Kumar Singh and Australian Minister for Energy and Emissions Reduction Angus Taylor from the Australian side.

The ministry added that with the urgent to advance technology and clean energy transition the parties agreed that their forward action plan will include the areas of energy efficiency technologies, and grid management.

They will also collaborate on research and development on flue gas desulphurisation, biomass or hydrogen co-firing, water cycle optimisation, renewables integration, batteries and electric mobility.

There were also five joint working groups in the India-Australia Energy Dialogue for power, new and renewable energy, coal and mines, critical minerals, and oil and gas.

They also identified other areas of cooperation aside from the power sector agreed under the other joint working groups such as reducing costs of green hydrogen, cooperation in the sphere of coal-based energy security and resource deployment, investment opportunities in the minerals sector, exploring potential for a liquified natural gas partnership, amongst others.
