India maintains lead in transmission pipelines projects: GlobalData

The country is slated to contribute 37% of oil & gas pipelines projects count by 2026.

India will likely be a major player in transmission pipelines as it is projected to contribute 37% of Asia’s oil and gas pipelines projects count by 2026, GlobalData reported.

In its New Build Trunk-Transmission Pipelines Projects Analytics and Forecast by Project Type, Regions, Countries, Development Stage, and Cost 2022-2026, of the 57 projects that will be operational by 2026 in India, 30 are gas pipelines projects, 23 are product pipelines, and four are oil pipelines.

“India is striving to develop a robust transmission pipeline infrastructure for greater transport of oil and gas to meet the ever-growing demand for energy,” Sudarshini Ennelli, Oil & Gas Analyst at GlobalData, said.

According to GlobalData, the Kandla-Gorakhpur product pipeline, which has a length of 2,809 kilometre (km), is amongst the major projects in the country. The project, costing US$1.4b, will run from Kandla port in Gujarat up to Gorakhpur in the Uttar Pradesh.

Moreover, under the US$1.4b Jagdishpur-Haldia Phase II gas pipeline project, state-owned GAIL will operate the 1,900-km pipeline across Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha, and West Bengal.

The project is intended to connect India’s eastern region with national gas network catering to the needs of domestic and industrial consumers.
