Philippine energy department, World Bank to launch offshore wind roadmap

The roadmap seeks to tap the countrys 178GW offshore wind potential.

The Philippines Department of Energy (DoE) and the World Bank Group (WBG) is set to launch the countrys first Offshore Wind Roadmap on 20 April 2022.

The roadmap seeks to tap the Philippines 178-gigawatt (GW) offshore wind potential. It also forms part of a series of offshore wind roadmap studies in emerging markets, commissioned by the WBG.

The launch will also pave the way for dialogues on the technical, economic, environmental, social, employment, and financing aspects.

Recommendations on policy and regulatory frameworks, setting the long-term vision for the industry, spatial planning, grid development and integration, as well as financing and commercial risks will also be tackled during the event.

The DoE noted this is in support of the Philippine's goal to move away from coal towards a more sustainable energy system.
