Masdar to develop 70MW solar plant in Côte d'Ivoire

It will support the country’s goal of having 45% renewables in its energy mix by 2030.

Abu Dhabi-based Masdar has partnered with the Ministry of Mining, Petroleum and Energy for the Republic of Côte d'Ivoire to develop a 70-megawatt (MW) solar power plant in Africa.

In a statement, Masdar said the agreement was signed under the United Arab Emirates’ programmer, Etihad 7, that aims to raise funds from the public and private sectors that will be used to invest in renewable energy in Africa.

Under the agreement, the parties will start with a 50MW to 70MW solar plant to support Côte d'Ivoire’s goal of attaining 45% renewable energy in its energy mix by 2030.

Aside from this, the country aims to reduce its greenhouse gas emissions by 32% during the same period.
