Genesis Energy, FRV Australia bags three sites for 400 MW solar farms

The projects will be situated in Manawatu, Waikato, and Hawker’s Bay.

Genesis Energy and its joint venture partner FRV Australia have secured three new sites on North Island for its solar projects with a total capacity of 400 megawatts (MW).

In a statement, Genesis Energy said that of the capacity, 200 MW will be located in Manawatu, 100 MW in Waikato, and 100 MW in Hawke’s Bay.

The three sites cover an area of 740 hectares with an estimated development cost of $600m.
The projects could meet the demand of around 85,000 homes annually and avoid around 500,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions from fossil fuel generation per year.

Genesis said the first of these sites is expected to start operations in 2026.
