Masdar amassed 1.4 GW of clean energy projects to the Uzbekistan national grid

The major energy producer has also inked a deal to develop a 2 GW wind farm.

Masdar has totalled over 1.4 gigawatt (GW) worth of clean energy projects connected to the national power grid of Uzbekistan.

This feat has been witnessed by His Excellency Shavkat Mirziyoyev, President of the Republic of Uzbekistan.

Alongside this new milestone, Masdar has also signed a landmark agreement with the Ministry of Energy and the Ministry of Investments, Industry and Trade of the Republic of Uzbekistan for the development of a 2 GW wind farm and 500 MWh of battery energy storage. The project is projected to supply over 1 million homes and reduce 4 million tonnes of carbon emissions yearly.

The deal also comprises 1,150 megawatt hours of battery energy storage capacity on five Masdar projects. Projects connected to the grid include the Zarafshan wind farm and three solar projects in Jizzakh, Samarkand, and Sherabad, all representing the largest solar development program in the region.

With the agreement, it brings Masdar’s total investment in Uzbekistan to over $4b.

“Uzbekistan is a key strategic destination for Masdar. The connection of these great projects demonstrates our long-term commitment to Uzbekistan and our capability to fast track projects, taking them from inception to implementation,” Mohamed Jameel Al Ramahi, CEO of Masdar, stated.

Currently, the nation has been aiming for over 7 GW of solar power output and 5 GW of wind capacity by the end of the decade.
