ACEN Australia inks PPA with SmartestEnergy for New England Solar

SmartestEnergy will take 25% of the electricity generated from the project’s first stage.

ACEN Australia and SmartestEnergy signed an eight-year power purchase agreement (PPA) for the offtake of 25% of the output of the 400-megawatt (MW) Stage 1 of ACEN’s New England Solar project.

In a joint statement, the companies said the agreement will help SmartestEnergy reduce sourcing from power generation with higher emissions intensity.

“Our goal is to help Australian businesses procure 100% renewable energy to fast-track their net zero journey, and we are very pleased to be able to partner with ACEN which is leading the sustainable energy landscape that integrates community prosperity,” SmartestEnergy Australia CEO Robert Owens.

The New England Solar project is ACEN Australia’s first operational project. Once completed, it will be one of Australia’s largest solar projects with a 720 MW capacity.
