Vena Energy and SECI ink India-first load-following 100 MW power deal
The agreement will provide RE by aligning supply with DISCOMs' hourly demand profile.
Vena Energy has signed India’s first load-following power purchase agreement (PPA) with the Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI) for 100 megawatt (MW) of renewable energy.
In a statement, Vena Energy said the deal us under the Firm and Dispatchable Renewable Energy (FDRE) scheme. This includes configurations such as assured peak power, round-the-clock supply (RTC), and load-following delivery as specified by DISCOMs.
“This represents India's first load-following PPA. This aims to provide reliable renewable energy by aligning supply with DISCOMs' hourly demand profile, requiring projects to integrate wind, solar and storage solutions for a consistent hourly output over 25 years,” Vena Energy said.
Monika Rathi, head of India at Vena Energy, said this is also the company’s first integrated wind, solar, and energy storage project in India.
The 100 MW project is projected to generate 380,000 megawatt-hours (MWh) of wind energy and 133,000 MWh of solar energy in its first full year of production. This capacity can power around 487,000 Indian households and avoid 488,000 tonnes of greenhouse gas emissions per annum.
