India operates two units at Kudankulam nuclear plant
Four more reactors will be commissioned progressively.
India has announced that two of its reactors at the 6,000 megawatt (MW) Kudankulam Nuclear Power Plant (KKNPP) are operating.
In a statement, the Department of Atomic Energy said the KKNPP units 1 and 2 have a total capacity of 2,000 MW. The power it generates is being allocated to the states of Karnataka, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, and Puducherry, whilst 300 MW is unallocated.
Meanwhile, KKNPP-3 & 4 (2 x 1000 MW) and KKNPP-5 & 6 (2 x1000 MW) are at different stages of construction and are planned to be commissioned progressively.
Authorities will announce the allocation of their power will be announced at an appropriate time.
