NTPC and MAHAGENCO sign pact to acquire 1,350 MW Sinnar Thermal Power
The consortium will acquire a hundred per cent stake in the company.
NTPC Limited and Maharashtra State Power Generation Company Limited (MAHAGENCO) have signed a shareholder agreement in connection with the acquisition of Sinnar Thermal Power Limited (STPL).
In a bourse filing, NTPC said the cost of acquisition was INR 3,800.14 crore. The consortium of MAHAGENCO and NTPC will acquire 100% of STPL, with each partner having a shareholding of 50%.
STPL is a company which is undergoing Corporate Insolvency Resolution Process under the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code 2016. The Resolution Plan submitted by the Consortium of MAHAGENCO and NTPC has been approved by the Hon’ble National Company Law Tribunal, Delhi, on 28 November 2025.
It owns a coal-based thermal power plant of 5 x 270 megawatt (MW) capacity at Sinnar, Nashik, Maharashtra. With this acquisition, the total installed capacity of NTPC group will become 86,987 MW, and commercial capacity will become 85,907 MW.
The acquisition is to be completed within 90 days from the date of NCLT’s approval order i.e. by 26th February 2026.
