Biggest private microgrid initiative in PH kicks off across 24 locations
The project is aiming to electrify 11,560 households.
The Maharlika Consortium has broken ground on 24 off-grid microgrids across Palawan, Cebu, and Quezon, marking the largest private-sector portfolio of its kind in the Philippines.
The project, led through special-purpose companies Archipelago Renewables Corporation and ARC II, in partnership with WEnergy Global and CleanGrid Partners, represents P2.1b (US$35m) in investment and aims to electrify 11,560 households.
The microgrid portfolio will deploy 7 megawatt-peak of solar photovoltaic capacity, battery energy storage systems totalling 8.0 megawatt-hours, 3.5 megawatts of diesel capacity, and a 225-kilometre smart distribution network.
More than 50% to 60% of power generation across the sites is expected to come from solar energy.
