Japan grants two grid-scale battery projects to Bison Energy subsidiary
Total installed capacity exceeds 2 GWh.
Chikudenjo No. 3 LLC, a Tokyo-based subsidiary of Bison Energy, announced that it has been awarded two grid-connected battery energy storage projects—Battery No. 116 and Battery No. 23—in Japan’s 3rd Long-Term Decarbonised Power Source Auction for FY2025.
The auction, conducted by Organization for the Promotion of Wide-Area Power System Operation, is part of Japan’s capacity market framework designed to accelerate the deployment of decarbonised energy sources while ensuring long-term grid stability and reliable electricity supply.
Both projects are 6-hour duration battery systems with a combined installed capacity exceeding 2 GWh. Once operational, the systems are expected to play a key role in balancing electricity supply and demand, particularly as renewable energy penetration continues to increase across Japan’s power grid.
Bison Energy said it will continue expanding its solar and energy storage business in Japan, focusing on supporting grid stability through large-scale storage deployment.
