Subansiri hydroelectric project way behind schedule, says CEA

The CEA calls NHPC’s aim to commission the first unit of its 2000 MW Subansiri Lower hydroelectric plants by December 2013 as too ambitious.

A tour report on the project revealed that a plethora of critical milestones still remains to be achieved, according to India’s Central Electricity Authority director Manoj Sikdar.

There is a large volume of civil works that is yet to be completed and their present rate of progress of excavation of tunnels, erection of steel liners in vertical pressure shaft and other such activities is too slow to meet the deadline.

The report also noted that the contract for the cut off wall at the dam site is yet to be signed with the finalized party.

The CEA feels that the National Hydroelectric Power Corporation’s project authorities are way behind the project commissioning schedule.
