Taiwan to stop nuke power generation by 2025

Government gave in to public demand to ditch nuke.

The Taiwanese government revealed its decision to stop generating nuclear power by 2025, as the public demand for a nuclear-free society becomes stronger following the Fukushima nuclear disaster.

Taiwan's current nuclear plants that are in operation will expire and hit 40 years' service by 2025. The government's planned revised bill will dictate that operations of all nuclear plants will be on suspension.

The country is pinning its hopes of better power provision to solar and wind power. It eyes raising their total share from the current 4% to 20% in 2025.
