ABB scales India wind production amidst 107 GW target

The move follows the Gamesa Electric acquisition.

ABB has dispatched its first wind power converter from India following its acquisition of Gamesa Electric’s power electronics business in December 2025.

The converter was manufactured at ABB’s Nelamangala facility in Bengaluru and delivered to a wind turbine OEM.

The shipment marks ABB’s push to strengthen its renewable energy presence in India, supporting local manufacturing under the ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ and ‘Make in India’ initiatives. The company’s portfolio now includes wind converters, utility-scale solar inverters, and battery energy storage systems (BESS).

India is the world’s third-largest wind manufacturing base, projected to supply 10% of global wind demand and reach 107 GW of installed wind capacity by 2030.

ABB has delivered over 60,000 wind converters globally and, with the acquisition, adds 46 GW to its serviceable installed base, equivalent to nearly one-fifth of India’s current renewable capacity.

ABB India is now positioned to support the country’s renewable energy targets, including 500 GW by 2030, through locally manufactured wind, solar, and BESS solutions.
