NEA, SIT open new training hub to equip 400 in energy efficiency

Students and professionals will gain hands-on experience in energy management.

The National Environment Agency (NEA) and the Singapore Institute of Technology (SIT) have opened the Energy Efficiency Training Facility at the SIT Punggol Campus, according to a press release.

The 430-square-metre facility will train 400 professionals and students, providing 1,500 hours of training annually. It houses equipment for pumps, compressed air, lighting, fans, electric motors, and air-conditioning systems, including heat pumps, boilers, and steam traps.

“By bringing industry-grade systems in-house, learners will benefit from more structured, scalable, and immersive training, strengthening workforce readiness and supporting Singapore’s energy efficiency and decarbonisation efforts,” said Chua Kee Chaing, SIT President.

An Energy Management System monitors operational data and simulates manufacturing conditions for small and medium-sized enterprises.

SIT and Willowglen Services Pte Ltd have signed a Research Collaboration Agreement to develop a Sustainability Reporting System for the facility, tracking energy consumption and carbon emissions.

Students will utilise the site for coursework and the Integrated Work Study Programme, the press release added.

Since its inception in 2020, the Energy Efficiency Technology Centre—a collaboration between NEA and SIT—has supported 50 companies and upskilled 500 professionals through the Energy Efficiency Upskilling Programme.
