PH, US finalise joint energy framework to boost collaboration
Both countries recognise the importance of reducing reliance on fossil fuel imports.
The Philippines and the United States have completed the Guiding Document that establishes a framework designed to facilitate collaboration and ensure the effective development and implementation of joint energy programmes.
In a statement, Manila’s Department of Energy (DOE) said this was finalised during the 2nd United States-Philippines Energy Policy Dialogue held last week.
Officials from both nations also discussed enhancing deployment of renewable energy technologies, modernising and expanding transmission infrastructure, and exploring nuclear energy for electricity generation. They also emphasised the importance of reducing reliance on imported fossil fuels to strengthen security and resilience.
The dialogue highlighted the importance of financing, technology, and infrastructure to support energy transition. These factors are critical to ensure an equitable, affordable, and inclusive shift to cleaner sources.
“By prioritising these objectives, the Philippines and the United States aim to address the dual challenges of fostering sustainable development and mitigating climate change, whilst paving the way for a cleaner, more resilient, and equitable energy future,” DOE said.
