Indonesia to form biggest geothermal holding company

It will comprise three state-owned companies focused on geothermal power.

The Indonesian Ministry of State-Owned Enterprises (BUMN) has revealed plans to create a holding for BUMN Geothermal.

It will comprise three state-owned companies working on the development and operation of a geothermal power plant.

The companies are geothermal energy utilisation company PT Pertamina Geothermal Energy (PGE), geothermal development and operating enterprise PT Geo Dipa Energi (Persero), and Persero-owned subsidiary PT PLN Geothermal.

Pahala Mansury, deputy minister I of BUMN, has verified the formation of the geothermal holding to local media, illustrating the ownership of it as by PGE, PLN, and the Indonesian government.

The holding company will be the largest across the world in terms of geothermal power generation capacity.

The holding company’s establishment is slated to be completed in 2021.
