CIL denies supplying poor quality coal to Kota, Suratgarh TPS

Coal India Limited refuted charges pertaining to supply of poor quality coal to Kota and Suratgarh thermal power plants, as alleged by Lalit Kishore Chaturvedi, MP.

CIL pointed out that based on the data collected for coal dispatch during last two years and first quarter of the current financial year, the dispatch to the Kota power station has been at par with the contract quantity.

In the case of Suratgarh TPS, the dispatch fell short of its target due to less lifting of coal by the private washery operator at SECL Korba. Moreover, CIL informed that Suratgar unit-6 refused coal supply during the previous year due to power house maintenance issues.

In addition, CIL reported that very few quality complaints were received by NCL and SECL, the coal companies responsible for dispatching coal. With regard to the complaint of oversize coal for rakes supplied from Krishnashilla and Block-B projects, efforts are being made to provide crushing arrangements to these mines at the earliest.

The company further claimed that the introduction of coal import was crucial to reduce the gap between power demand and availability of indigenous coal. Most of the power stations are regularly importing coal to meet the plant requirements.
