CLP Power Hong Kong initiates asset review after power incidents

The company reported voltage dips in April and March.

CLP Power Hong Kong tapped an independent expert panel to conduct a review of its asset management following concerns over its recent power incidents.

In a statement, CLP Power said the review will cover asset management in power generation, transmission and distribution, maintenance regime, and contractor agreement.

“We fully appreciate public expectation for a reliable power supply. We are committed to working tirelessly to ensure the safety and reliability of our system, managing our assets responsibly and proactively responding to incidents, including those caused by factors out of our control,” said CLP Power Managing Director Joseph Law.

“CLP Power will adopt practical measures to continue enhancing our supply reliability and resilience to extreme weather conditions,” he added.

The expert panel will be chaired by Ir Edmund Leung, former President of the Hong Kong Institution of Engineers. Ir CL Leung, former Chairman of the Electrical Division of the Hong Kong Institution of Engineers, and Victor Kwong, Founding President of the Hong Kong Federation of Occupational Safety and Health Associations, will be joining as members.

CLP Power reported a voltage dip in the 400 kilovolts (kV) power supply system in Tuen Mun with no power interruption but some customers might have experienced flickering lights or dimming during the period.

A voltage dip was also reported in the 400 kV overhead power supply system connecting Yuen Long and Lai Chi Kok.
