Horizon Power taps GHD for Pilbara Green Link project
Preliminary engineering phase will be completed next year.
Horizon Power, a state-owned energy provider in Western Australia, is engaging GHD for the preliminary engineering for the planned Pilbara Green Link project.
In a statement, GHD said it will be responsible for the preliminary design of the transmission lines and substations, with the initial engineering phase expected to be completed by March 2025.
The Pilbara Green Link involves the installation of 550 kilometres of high-voltage 330 kilovolts transmission lines. This will connect Horizon Power’s current transmission infrastructure with the Australian Renewable Energy Hub and other proposed large scale renewable developments.
“Aligned with the Western Australian Government’s Sectoral Emissions Reduction Strategy, which has identified decarbonising the North West Interconnected System as a priority to meet Western Australia’s 2050 net zero emission targets, the Pilbara Green Link is set to transform the energy landscape in North West Western Australia,” GHD said.
The company said this is also a significant step in the Pilbara region’s low-carbon transition.
