The Russian state-held firm Rosatom reported the start of the fuel loading phase at the third unit of the Tianwan nuclear power project (Tianwan-3) in the Jiangsu province of China, according to Enerdata.
In the aftermath, the reactor will be brought to the "minimum controllable power level", followed by the start of the power generation phase. Rosatom plans to connect the unit to the grid by the end of 2017 and expects the start of commercial operations in 2018.

The Tianwan nuclear power plant is operated by the Jiangsu Nuclear Power Corporation, a joint venture between China National Nuclear Corporation (50%), China Power Investment Corporation (30%) and Jiangsu Guoxin Group (20%). It consists of two 990 MW (1,060 MW gross) AES-91 VVER-1000 pressurised-water reactors (PWRs) commissioned in 2006 and 2007 and of two similar units that are currently under construction on the site.
The construction started in December 2012 for the third unit and in September 2014 for the fourth unit.
