Philippines to fast-track 1,471 MW of new renewable power by April 2026

Twelve solar projects will provide 1,284 MW.

The Philippines is fast-tracking 1,471 megawatts (MW) of new power capacity from 22 projects set to come online by April 2026, the Department of Energy (DOE) said.

The government said it aims to ensure stable electricity supply amid rising fuel costs and global oil market pressures.

The incoming capacities will come from renewable sources, including 12 solar projects totaling 1,284 MW, six hydroelectric plants generating 48.23 MW, two biomass facilities with 38 MW, one wind project with 13.56 MW, and a 20 MW Integrated Renewable Energy Storage System (IRESS).

These 22 projects are part of 200 power plants President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. ordered fast-tracked over the next three years to boost the country’s electricity supply.

Currently, 24 power plants under DOE monitoring are already operational, totaling 1,178.642 MW, along with seven battery storage facilities with 190 MW.

To prevent delays, the DOE is coordinating with the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP), Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC), and Independent Electricity Market Operator (IEMOP) on transmission, interconnection, and regulatory requirements.

“Every megawatt that can be safely and lawfully brought into the grid strengthens our ability to meet demand, manage supply risks, and protect consumers,” said Energy Secretary Sharon S. Garin. “The department is fully engaged across the entire power value chain, from generation to transmission to market operations to help ensure that these projects move forward at the soonest possible time.”

The DOE will continue monitoring progress to deliver additional power capacity safely and on schedule.
