CEA seeks govt approval for second UMPP

The Central Electricity Authority is seeking  the state's approval for implementation of a second 4,000 MW UMMP in Jharkhand.

The Ultra Mega Power Project, which was supposed to come up at Siktiya, is now up for approval at a new site in Husainbad, in the district of Deoghar.

The project is proposed to be a special purpose vehicle formed by Power Finance Corporation.

Initially, two potential sites -- Husainbad and Siktiya -- in the state of Jharkhand were considered for the Deoghar UMPP.

The site at Husainbad was preferred since the site at Siktiya consists of a large forest area that included a part of the protected forest.

The site at Husainbad has been recommended subject to clearance from state water resource department since the site falls in the command area of the proposed Burhai Dam.
