ACWA to develop largest green hydrogen facility in Indonesia

The project will be supported by 600 MW of solar and wind power.

Saudi Arabia’s ACWA Power, Indonesia’s state-owned electricity provider Perusahaan Listrik Negara and fertiliser and chemical producer PT Pupuk Indonesia signed an agreement to develop the largest green hydrogen facility in the Southeast Asian country expected to start operation in 2026.

In a statement, ACWA Power said the Garuda Hidrogen Hijau Project will be powered by 600 megawatts of solar and wind power and will produce 150,000 tonnes of green ammonia annually.

The bidding process for the project, which would cost over $1b, is targeted to start in the first quarter of 2024 and reach financial close by the end of 2025.

The agreement was signed by ACWA Power CEO Marco Arcelli signed the agreement with PLN’s CEO Darmawan Prasodjo and Pupuk Indonesia CEO Rahmad Pribadi on the sidelines of the 28th United Nations Climate Change Conference.
