Australia invests $45.9m in Bell Bay Hydrogen Hub

The hub is expected to generate 45,000 tonnes of green hydrogen yearly.

The Australian Government is providing around $45.9m (A$70m) in investment for the development of the Bell Bay Hydrogen Hub in Northern Tasmania, bringing the total investment in the project to around $196.8m (A$300m).

In a statement, the Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water said the hydrogen hub will enable the production of up to 45,000 tonnes of green hydrogen annually.

The project will also create 740 job opportunities for energy specialists including engineers and technicians. The construction will also employ local skilled trades such as concreters, plumbers, fitters, and electricians.

The department added that Tasmania has a natural advantage in green hydrogen production attributed to its long history of clean energy production.
